This shot came about and gained the title footsteps. Due to his older brothers are amazing at motocross. He has always tried to keep up with his brothers. But sometimes with them being at the age of 21 and 25. He is limited on what he is able to do with them. This is the moment where a child is in a hurry to grow up. And being adults we know sometimes we would rather be the child again. But he couldn’t seem to understand his brothers have been riding for a long time before him. All he knew was he finally got his own bike and all new gear. The lesson of practice was not in his plans. He truly felt at this moment he would be riding side by side with his brothers. And taking the big jumps right along with them. The disappointment on his face when they told him no he couldn’t go with them until he learned how to ride. Was a bit heart breaking because he has always tried to follow in their footsteps. And sometimes footsteps are to far to reach.

These are some shots I did with a modified infrared camera I had custom built a few years ago.
I am going to be experimenting more in this area soon. Applying HDR and some of my lighting tricks.

You may ask What exactly is infrared? and what needs to be done to the camera?

well the digital imaging sensors in most cases are just as sensitive to infrared light as to visible light. Cameras are built to stop infrared light from affecting the image by placing a hot mirror filter in front of the sensor that then blocks the infrared part of the spectrum while still allowing the visible light to pass.

To get Infrared you remove this hot mirror filter and replace it with a custom infrared or clear filter. Then you have to adjust the focus, to a lens you choose to be your main lens.

Why is this better than using a infrared filter in front of the lens?

Well the internal hot mirror filter blocks most of the infrared light from reaching the sensor, And that is making the exposure time much longer then usual. And will requiring a tripod. And long exposures makes it difficult to photograph people and anything else that might move.

Also because you place the opaque infrared filter in front of your lens you can’t see to well to compose and focus, making it even more difficult and time consuming to take each shot.

I love shooting people and carrying a tripod everywhere I go works great if you are shooting landscapes all the time. But by the time you get a tripod set up to shoot everyday people the moment is gone.

Enjoy and God Bless
Robert

Yesterday was a unexpected great day on print sales. The reason I say unexpected is. The day before I went walking around Jerome just to get a few shots mostly to get out of my studio and enjoy the fresh air. Igor the Russian spy took me by a location to get some shots of an old car in front of the old time gas station. And I was really impressed by his find much like I am most the time when Igor tells me an idea he has or a location he has found. It is like he brings to reality what I have in my mind. Well after editing the shots from Jerome and the old car shot. I put them on facebook not really expecting anything from it. And Dawn McIntyre came along and fell in love with the car shot and wanted to buy the print. Well on one hand I was excited on the other hand I was in a panic. because my shopping cart was not fully done being hooked up. I haven’t even had a chance to add any of the new shots to the inventory yet. And I have not even tested the visa card transaction yet. So what better way to test a unfinished site then with a new client. I have to say Dawn McIntyre became our blessing. She was able to buy the print and what followed was 3 more sales. 2 of the church shots sold and one of the old doors I shot in Jerome. So we would very much like to thank Dawn McIntyre for taking the chance on a unfinished website and to purchase a product we have not even had time to add to the inventory yet.
I am in Scottsdale AZ, today dealing with a art gallery that is interested in buying my Steve Vai prints. I will let everyone know the results after the meeting.

The other day I went down to do a shoot at a local car show. Shooting these works of art can be very fun and very rewarding. Most the time these cars are always parked side by side for people to walk along and look at each one. I tend to want to single each car out on its own shot without getting other cars in the shot. and it can be a bit tricky using a wide angle lens when they are lined up side by side. Having to many cars in one shot can really kill the focal point of what you want the viewer to see in the photo. So what is the best way to solve this problem? well it is pretty simple. You ask the owner of the car if he would be willing to move his car to another location. And explain that you only want his car in the shot. They are almost always happy to do this for you. And this is one of the shots. When I get back from Scottsdale I will be adding more shots from the car show. In the mean time wish me luck on the art gallery meeting. It is going to be a great day today.

God bless

Robert

I was able to do a photo shoot with Mr. Steve Vai at his house. We hung out with him and his wife for a little over 4 hours. I have to say he is a pretty amazing man. very humble for being the worlds best guitar player. He tossed me a bonus by allowing me to shoot him with his new guitar he designed. No one has ever shot him with it. and the guitar was not on the market yet. I had to hold off on making the photos public until Ibanez did their release of the guitar. Well Steve had called last night and said I can do what ever I want with the photos. I can now release them to magazines and the art gallery in Scottsdale Az, This is just a sample of one of the first shots I did.

I have always been a people photographer. I enjoy face expressions and images that tell a story of every day life. over the last week I have been experimenting with landscapes. I am finding it to be a new challenge for me. A couple of the biggest challenges is to sit and wait for the light to be just right. I am so use to using my own light gear and having control of the light. Getting me to sit and wait for anything drives me nuts. I would rather spend the time looking for a big ladder to move the sun where I need it to be The other thing is I am use to organizing a set. move a lamp here add trash there and so on. But with landscapes organizing rocks and mountains is impossible So I spend a lot of time hiking around and really trying to find something that catches my eye. When shooting models and people I can pull in 800 shots in a day. with landscapes I feel like im walking 800 miles a day to come home with one photo I actually like. Well this is my one photo from yesterdays 800 mile walk

I decided yesterday to do some experimenting with shooting landscapes and a few bikes. Needless to say its not an area of photography I am use to at all. I feel a bit lost shooting a tree without a model being my main focal point. And telling a tree to move its branches a little to the left. Makes about as much sense as explaining to my sons I still do kn0w more then they do.

This was another test shot. trying my hand at landscapes

This was one of the bikes I shot as well. I really liked how the sun was hitting the chrome.
